Your Cervical Screening Results

Now Available on the NHS App

From this month, if your cervical screening test result is normal, you’ll receive it digitally through the NHS App.  A normal result means no further tests are needed right now, and you’ll be invited again for screening at the usual time.

How You’ll Get Your Result

  • If your result is normal, you’ll get a notification in the NHS App.
  • If you don’t have notifications turned on, you may also get a text message reminding you to check the app.
  • If the message isn’t read within 72 hours, or if you don’t have the NHS App, a letter will be sent to you as a backup.

What About Abnormal Results?

If your result shows something that needs further investigation (like a referral to colposcopy), you’ll still receive a letter by post. However, please note:

  • You might see your result earlier in the NHS App under your GP Health Records, especially if you’ve signed up to view your medical records.
  • You may also receive a colposcopy appointment via the app before your letter arrives.

What You Can Do

  • Download the NHS App and turn on notifications so you don’t miss important updates.
  • If you’re attending a cervical screening appointment, your healthcare provider will let you know about these changes.
  • If you’ve asked for your result to be sent to a different address, please be aware that the NHS App will still be used first (if you have it), and a letter will only be sent if the app message isn’t read.
